Right now the state Legislature continues to debate how it will meet its obligation to fully fund basic education, and reduce local school districts’ reliance on local levies to fund basic education programs. Given that 23.7% of our funding currently comes from local levies the decisions made in Olympia will definitely impact us here at home. In the coming years our school board will likely be engaged in tough conversations about how to respond to the Legislature’s decisions, and I hope to be there advocating for the best interest of our students!
This chart shows a breakdown of the sources of funding for Tacoma Schools.
